The presence of gold on the face of the earth is purely accidental.
The early Earth was a ball of molten rock. Gold and other metals were present in the form of a viscous, melted mass.
Over the course of tens of millions of years that mixture of metals sank and dragged the gold deep into the Earth's core, thousands of kilometers beyond our reach.
