WEARABLE SCULPTURES.
AI ESTANKONA's approach to jewellery design is strongly influenced by art, especially modern and avant-garde Basque sculpture.
The conical shape of the cufflink ends is made to catch a lot of light. That light is compressed in the narrow funnel-shaped neck where a tension is created. This tension makes the light, which passes through the cufflinks from side to side, shine like a precious stone.
Solid 18k gold is HEAVY: this doesn't make solid gold jewellery uncomfortably heavy, it just makes it very satisfying because the physical experience with the jewellery matches what the eyes expect. They weigh what they should.
